Department History

The Town of Swansea, Swansea Fire Department has been a fully volunteer department for over 100 years of service, constantly evolving and always placing the lives and property of its citizens above their own. Being officially recognized as a town agency in 1923; over the course of the next century, the department would see eight Fire Chiefs, dozens of fire apparatus, hundreds of Fire Fighters, and tens of thousands of fire related incidents. Responsibility being split up amongst four strategically placed stations, one constant always remains, if you call, the Swansea Fire Department is sure to respond.

Swansea Fire has a rich history of placing training and strategic planning above all else. Chiefs and training officers have been sure to understand that the fire service is a forever changing and forever evolving problem that can have multiple solutions. With the evolution of new tools, fancy apparatus, increased fire fighter safety initiatives, and fires becoming more dangerous and complex, the Swansea Fire Department continues to be at the fore front of personnel training to ensure everybody makes it home safe.
